We all become excited for things foreign to us. For us in the tropics tulips are fascinating. Never mind what we can buy at the market here. They never look as good as those in Europe.
Taking a walk by Lake Zurich this spring I saw a dark purple tulip variety I had not seen before. The tulips were growing in wooden crates along the boardwalk together with other flowering plants that complimented their color.

The crates were not big enough to make a frame-filling near-far composition of plants and I was disappointed for a moment. Then I realized that the dark tulips seen against the water were what called my attention in the first place… and the cloudy spring day became a bit brighter for me!

If you know the name of this tulip variety please let me know…
Do you feel the same when you see orchids over there?
I appreciate learning about contrast and framing from your post, not to mention being able to see beautiful tulips! I live in the part of the U.S. known for tulip growing and I never tire of seeing them.
